Anamchara is the home of knights, paladins and generally the kind-hearted. They fight for good and peace.
Anamchara is located in the Odoshis Mountains, along the Northshore Trade Route - from Blackwaters Rock, travel along the route past the Grumstone Path, past the Public Library, and take the path into the foothills of the Mountains. Anamchara maintains a quarry in the foothills where gems, minerals and rocks are mined for trade. Also in the mountains near Anamchara are ruins of an older settlement, behind which is an entrance to the Underdark.
The citizens of Tens sometimes try to mock the citizens of Anamchara by referring to them as "Northerners", due to Anamchara's approximate North-Eastern location in the lands of Styss. Anamcharans laugh at this and equally-mockingly refer to Tensians as "Southerners". Anamcharans do not have any nickname - derogatory or otherwise - for the citizens of Elzigard.
StatisticsEditDenizens: Mostly celestials, humans and elves, but other beings of a generally-good nature may be found within Anamchara's walls. The living dead are not allowed to become citizens, and any citizen who finds themselves joining the ranks of the undead risks being expelled if they choose to embrace their undead state. Laws have been passed, in an effort to stem the growing numbers of such beings, to prevent full-blooded baatezu and tanar'ri from becoming citizens of Anamchara; existing beings who were citizens at the time the laws were passed were not stripped of their citizenship, although they are not permitted to hold rank or authority.
Religion: Worship of most good and neutral aligned deities is the most common in the White City. Worship of other deities may be tolerated so long as the worship of such deities does not in any way violate the city's laws or principles.
Government: Democracy. Anamchara is currently ruled by an elected Protector, who oversees the running of the city as well as relationships with the other cities. The Minister of State handles the day-to-day running of the city. The city also has a Tribunal - consisting of the General, Archmage and High Cleric, the Tribunal can make decisions in the absence of the Protector, or even (in extreme circumstances) overrule the Protector. Anamchara is, generally, a city of Law and Order, tending to Good. Its citizens stand ready to protect those who seek help, and will fight to see that the evil of Tens does not sweep across the lands.
Anamchara maintains a strong internal force - consisting of both regular militia, and the elite Shieldwardens. Anamchara is generally bright and open. Its streets are paved in shades of white marble and stone, and many of the buildings are made from materials of the same colours. The paving blocks of the city having been cut and finished by Master Quarrymen from the mountain itself making the city truly a part of the mountainside. The people are generally open and friendly, and this is something that the current leadership encourages. Due to its location in the Odoshis Mountains, Anamchara can occasionally be buffeted by strong winds, and it is known to snow in the White City.
It is cooler in Anamchara than most other places on Styss, but the citizens do not seem to mind this. Anamchara, despite its chill weather, boasts nothing in the way of a really welcoming inn. The Seven Swords Inn, the city's largest, has been known co cause brain-seizures. The alternative, the Frozen Frigate, has its charms but boasts only two bedrooms and the poorest hygiene of any Inn in Styss. A well-stocked magic store, a comfortable tailor and dressmaker's shop, a bank, a store for general supplies, and a Housing District also jewel this fine city. In the Housing District there is the Temple and Arcane Tower, as well as an expansive courtyard and a large lake with park-like flora surrounding it
Anamcharan Ranks - Military and CivilianEdit
Like the other two cities, Anamchara isn't led by one person alone. Instead, the elected leader creates sub-branches and fills them with their choice of appointed leaders. These leaders can be picked based on a wide variaty of critera which may change depending on the leader or a sudden change of the times. Each rank is for the most part self-explanatory. The General leads the army, the Justicar is in charge of the judging the laws and the city's courts. The Archmage is in charge of increasing the city's magical knowledge while the Archon keeps the city in touch with the divine - be it The Overlord or the gods from the main planes of existance. The Minister of State looks after the day-to-day running of the city, including maintaining the registry of slaves in the city.

The city of Anamchara is unique with its military from the other two cities in one aspect. To those who show themselves to go above and beyond the call of duty or basic citizenship the Anamcharan council will deliver military and civilian medals of honor. The current medals and their significances are below.

Daily and City life in AnamcharaEdit
The "average" citizen can engage in a wide variety of tasks about the city. Some, like Jeanette and Fairanna, work the various shops and stores in the city (Jeanette runs the Busted Tap Inn, Fairanna operates Anamchara's Magic Shop). Others staff the castle and wait tables in the Inn, while tasks such as cleaning the streets typically are given to city slaves. Citizens can apply to the city militia and the elite Shieldwardens, and all such members will fall under the watchful eye of the Captain of the Guard. The Dockmaster oversees all traffic by boat both into and out of Anamchara, and all goods entering the city will be referred to the Secretary of Trade.An average day in Anamchara can consist of citizens performing their tasks without interruption from the elite citizens of the city - those citizens who enter that place called the Warzone and fight for the city against the armies of Tens and Elzigard. Sometimes the city is quiet, and the regular citizen can go about their tasks with ease; other times the elite citizens hold their meetings and discussions in the city...these occasions can cause interruptions and problems for the regular citizens, although they still go about their business as best they can.
Meal times in Anamchara are, for the regular citizen, typically taken at times approximate to the position of the sun: Breakfast when the sun is low and rising; lunch when the sun is high; dinner when the sun is low and setting. There is no curfew in place in Anamchara that demands citizens be in bed by a certain hour.
Life in the city is generally calm and peaceful. There are few disruptions to the serenity of the city - the militia and Shieldwardens see to it. Now that re-construction work on the city - in the aftermath of the attack on the city by the soldiers of Tens - has been completed, the busting activity produced by this work as faded into something that most would call "normal".
Anamchara's culture could be best described as utopian. The cold weather of the mountain in which the city has been build on bares no symbolism of the pleasant lifestyle lived inside the white city. Due to the religious nature often placed on a city with high morals of what is considered righteous the city attracts a lot of Paladins and Clerics who lend their abilities to make sure that inside the city there is almost no serious disease or illness. The city's fresh food supplies come either from trade with Elzigard or the small farming communities based around the foot of the Odoshis Mountains, from which the farmers make their living and gain protection by trading with Anamchara. There is extensive trade through the ports as well, such luxury items as imported wines and chocolates often come through the docks. Though more mundane items make their way through the ports as well.
Inside the city there is barely any sort of crime once again due to the cities religious nature. The religion keeps most of the commoners of the city good-natured and happy, while also providing for the basic needs of the people, leaving almost no poverty inside the White City. This also extends to city slaves, who are well cared for inside the city's temple. Inside the temple the slaves are given a high quality of living: they are fed, clothed, kept clean and healthy, and are given free spiritual aid and care when troubled by their city status.The Elite Citizens are really the only true cause of crime and disruption inside of the White City, every now and again breaking some odd law or just breaking the daily life cycle. The lifestyle between the elite class and the commoners can be for the most part the exact same - or completely different, depending on the person in question. While all basic citizens for the most part flock to the temple, which helps guide them without taking control of their daily lives, some Elite citizens do not follow the light in actions or if at all. But nonetheless, as long as the elite do not break the city's laws or find themselves in a certain category of prejudice, they are allowed to remain in the city.
Anamchara also contains its fair amount of refugees from Tens and Elzigard. People who couldn't handle the lifestyle and pains of the "kill or be killed" ways of Tensian strength and politics. Or the people who just no longer wish to have the hard farmer's life of Elzigard. For the most part these refugees are watched by certain individuals - especially if they come from Tens - but despite this fact they are generally let into the city with open arms due to the city's nature.
The people of Anamchara are also well-educated; most are capable of reading and writing, and often times higher intellectual thought. The Mage tower offers free basic schooling to the citizens (// think: Primary Schooling), while also offering higher courses to those with a talent for the arcane, divine, or simply the money and eagerness to learn.
Most recently, a semi-formal school was set up for the children of Anamchara. This school occupies a couple of generally-unused rooms in the Anamcharan castle, and is run by castle staff and "elite" citizens alike. It aims to ground the younger minds - and future leaders - of the city in such things as maths, reading & writing, geography, history, and crafts...and more.
Holidays & Special days of AnamcharaEdit
- Founding Day (2nd day of the 4th month) - celebrating the day Anamchara was founded
- Assault Day (16th day of the 3rd month) - celebrating the day of Anamchara's victory against Tensian assaults (all Tensian assaults will be remembered on this day)
- Day of Razing (10th day of the 8th month) - honouring those lost in the destruction of Argannon
- Day of Duty (1st day of the 9th month) - religious festival to honour Torm, Helm, and those deities who watch and protect
- Day of Joy (1st day of the 6th month) - religious festival to honour and celebrate those deities who advocate freedom, peace, happiness and music/culture
- Season Day (1st day of the 2nd, 5th, 8th and 11th months) - occurs four times a year, always on the first day of a new season (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter)
- Honours Day (15th day of the 10th month) - the day nominated for the awarding of city honours to citizens, although honours can be awarded at any time
- Year Day (1st day of the 1st month) - celebration of the beginning of a new year
Racism & PrejudicesEdit
For the most part, Anamchara is accepting of most beings who wish to live inside its walls - with a few exceptions.
Whether fully undead, such as vampires, or partially undead, such as those known as Palemasters - may not be citizens of Anamchara. If the conditions that led to undeath are reversible, the Temple offers a long and painful recovery process that will return the citizen to a fully living state. Those who refuse to undertake this process risk summary banishment from the city, although they can (currently) retain their allegiance to Anamchara by engaging in a mercenary contract with the city.
Those arcane practicioners who use and manipulate life energies in a destructive fashion - are similarly not allowed to become citizens of the city. If they wish to do so, they must stop their arcane practices before citizenship will be granted.
Baatezu and Tanar'riEdit
Otherwise known as devils and demons respectively - are no longer allowed to become citizens. This prohibition only applies to full-blooded baatezu and tanar'ri; those of mixed blood - such as tieflings, alu-fiends and cambions - are not bound by these laws, and may take up citizenship as any human or demi-human would.
There is a strong drow presence within the city, and these drow have added their prowess to that of Anamchara's own. While they may be viewed with suspicion by some, the drow have so far followed the laws of the city as any other citizen would be expected to...or at least they haven't been caught breaking the city's laws.
The citizens of Tens may not enter Anamchara without the escort of an Anamcharan citizen; Tensians who fail to have an escort will be turned away at the city gates - violently if need be. A recent agreement between Anamchara and Tens allowed that no Tensian may enter Anamchara by stealth, either, on pain of punishment by the leadership of both cities; this agreement was recently annulled when Amy Swift snuck into Tens and delivered a message to the then-Tyrants Brocard and Vier'idil that the time of games between Anamchara and Tens was at an end.
The citizens of Elzigard are not viewed with the same degree of hostility or suspicion that the citizens of Tens recieve - but they are still watched and treated with respect and caution.
Laws of AnamcharaEdit
The Laws of Anamchara are based largely on kindness, goodness and respect, and also on the notion that people are (basically) free. As such, they generally take into account liberties and freedoms of the individual, and spell out the penalties for any infringements against those freedoms and liberties. The laws also govern wartime responsibilities and activities, and define duties and authorities for those who hold rank in the city. They define the basic guidelines for citizens, guide relations between Anamchara and the other two cities, and lay down the framework for the judiciary to operate within. They also proscribe the rights and liberties of those known to be evil - such as baatezu, tanar'ri, and palemasters and other sentient undead.
Ranks & DefinitionsEdit
This section of the City's laws defines each level of government and military - by both rank name/title and scope of duties. It covers all ranks and offices from the Chancellor to the Castle Secretary, from General to Sergeant, and all other ranks and positions in between. It defines the scope of powers of the Tribunal, and also loosely defines the guild leaders. This sections also defines the methods used for appointments and removals of any person who holds rank or office in the city.
This section of law defines how Anamcharans are expected to act and behave, both towards other Anamcharan citizens and to non-Anamcharans. It also covers alliances between Anamchara and either of the other major cities. Also covered in this section are the rights and obligations of citizens, as well as those who join Anamchara from other cities.
This section of the laws outlines the duties of each soldier who takes part in warzone fighting, and provides instruction as to who is authorised to take leadership of any war party. It also gives clear definition for how Anamcharans are to treat captives and prisoners.
This section of the city's laws outlines the processes for hiring and dismissing mercenaries, as well as defining who can and cannot hire percenaries. It also gives scope for the rights and responsibilities of both hiring party and mercenary.
Submissive relationships are still permissible for citizens, but no laws restrict the submissive in trade, battle or personal choices, and crimes are punished appropriately. No longer will a dominant be held accountable for the actions of those under his or her control, nor will a dominant be allowed to act in such a manner that would be considered exercising control more appropriate to true slaves.
Slaves from Tens or Elzigard can seek sanctuary in the White City, and will be freed accordingly, with or without permission from their home city and/or owner. Although removal of the magically-enhanced slave collars often used on the isle is difficult, it is not impossible. Any slave may seek freedom by approaching Anamchara for help.
Crime and PunishmentEdit
The current form of city laws outlines the types of crimes (whether against the person or the city), allows definition as to the severity (from Minor to Captial), allows for a specific crime to have been committed (Rape, Torture, Murder, Treason, Espionage, among others), and allows for a scope of punishments to be handed out according to the severity and type of crime committed (Fines, Hard Labour, Whipping, Execution, among others).
Necromancy & FiendsEdit
Warranting its own section are the subjects of Necromancy (where such magic is used to delay death and twist life in unnatural ways, including undeath) and Fiends (which includes pure-blooded Baatezu and Tanar'ri, but not their mixed-blood offspring). This section makes it clear that neither is welcome amongst Anamcharan citizenry.
